Back in early September :

Teacher : So kids, I guess you already know that you are supposed to spend you second semester abroad, in an anglophone country, right ? :D
Class : Duh.
Teacher : Well things have changed this year ! You don't just study abroad and live off your parents' money like a leech while you pretend to study ! You're going to work. And that's all you're going to do. For 8 full months, and don't you come back to France before that.
Class : What, but, we were just supposed to go to school andmaybemeetnicelocalsandparty-
Teacher : So ! Websites of embassies...

And then I wanted a Canadian working visa. )

Academic flailing

You just know your school year is going to be amazing when :

- You realize that all your languages teachers are actually real foreigners, and not someone who fails at faking an accent,
- You have a course very demurely called "History and Myths", which is actually a lecture of Tv Tropes,
- In the first 10 minutes of said class, the teacher has called Bismarck the biggest bastard ever and Napoleon III "Uncle", adding "oh I love that guy ! He was far from the brightest guy in the room, you know, didn't see the industrial revolution coming at all, but I love him ! I call him Tonton !",
- One of your English teacher is a Moroccan born guy who speaks French with an Arab accent and English with a Scottish one. Another is a walking cliché of the Exceptionally Hyper British,
- And my inner dork is just ridiculously excited at the prospect of English and Spanish literature, civilisation and translation classes. Especially after an 8 months long intellectual famine. arsdfgh languages and accents and cultures and some history thrown in the mix, this is going to be magnificent.

That said, I just have to shout SPANISH GRAMMAR YOU FUCKER I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS.
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME, WE LEFT ON FRIENDLY TERMS TWO YEARS AGO.

Also, starting tomorrow and for 4 days, cinema tickets cost only 4€. Less than half the price I usually have to pay, even with a student discount. Oh God I'm going to spend my day in a theatre, and Inglourious Basterds in original version is very much part of the program. Because wtf French dubbing, way to miss the point :|

Why so compelling, China ?

I'm abroad ! Touring China and Japan and generally incredible places ! Yay me for knowing how to butt into cool things...

Also, why did I ever think that catching up with more than 2 weeks worth of f!list was something feasible ? I'll stick to the "I'm a moron" explanation for now, unless someone can come up with a better wording...

But even if I'm still abroad, some thoughts about China and Japan in general, and to make it a bit more interesting, how about doing it in a "letter they'll never read" form, mmh ?

So Dear You : )

Right. So, guess who just got accepted in one of the 2 best translation schools of France ? Oh, yeah.

I THINK THAT'S ME.

(Cue a lot of flailing on my part and plans to celebrate it in remarkably distinguished ways. Ahem.)

Also, there have been a lot of forest fires around my house recently. And because I live on the border of a cliff, the firefighting planes (Red Canadairs, I keep imagining a bunch of Gar Canadas as the pilots) literally fly 30 feets above my roof. There's so close that they make the chandeliers rattle, just like in Mary Poppins ! Let me tell you that reading some battle fic with that soundtrack is all kind of awesome.

And to make this post a bit more worthwhile, have some old French songs, all by Charles Trenet :

Y'a d'la joie     This song makes me ridiculously happy, and
Douce France      a bit more melancholic if you pay attention to the lyrics, but the tune... ♥

Oh old (comical) over the top French accent, how I love thee.
